Mary Mawuwornu Akorli – Director of Women and Youth development

Mary Mawuwornu Akorli (M. M. AKORLI) is a young African lady who comes from the Volta Region of Ghana. She is a lover of social development with paying particular attention to the under privileged in society. M. M. AKORLI is currently working with GIBICTS Center for Community and Youth Development as the Director for Women and Youth Development. With her experience as a former Women’s Commissioner, amongst other gender and youth related portfolios she worked in partnership with many National and International Organizations notably; UN women, UNAIDS, Netright, the All Africa Students Union (AASU) etc.

In 2011, M. M. AKORLI was elected the First Deputy Speaker of the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology Students Parliament- under the auspices of the Parliament of Ghana. Also appointed the Women’s Commissioner of College of Art and Social Sciences of Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) in the same year. In 2012, she was elected the Women’s Commissioner of National Union of Ghana Students (NUGS) which is the mouthpiece of all students in Ghana. During these times M. M. AKORLI carried out a number of projects for women and girls – Female Wakeful Project, this was a media program to encourage every young lady in school and the communities to avail themselves for leadership position by either accepting appointments or contesting for the positions. –the woman prisoner project; this project focused on caring for women in the prisons. Providing them with basic life needs.- the Ladies Caucus; this project established a Parliament For Tertiary Female Students to introduce them to Parliamentary rudiments right from school. – the High School Leader; this was an engagement with High School girls  on their campus across the country to educate them on the holistic approach to leadership.

In 2014 she gained employment with Impel Concepts as the Business Development Manager, also became Business Development Manager of International Institute of Productivity and Public Management in 2017.  Later that year she moved to Join GIHOC Distilleries Company Limited as Brand’s Manager for Meridian Water and she doubled as the Managing Director of Novel Flower Communications, both in Accra. As a good multitasker, the additional role as Director of women and Youth development of GIBICTS CENTER FOR COMMUNITY AND YOUTH DEVELOPMENT came in handy.
