GCCYD ICT TRAINING

The primary objective of GCCYD’s ICT Training program is to equip young people with basic Information and Communication Technology skills and empower them to leverage these skills to start their own businesses. This program targets youth between 18 and 35 years old.

The intervention offers ICT skills-based training in a classroom setting, spanning six months. Participants gain proficiency in various basic packages, web design applications, and basic entrepreneurship training, accompanied by advisory services. Additionally, the program provides free internet access to the youth, and some beneficiaries receive small grants to kickstart their businesses. The project also features a library where youth can access reading materials and newspapers to expand their ICT knowledge.

Through this program, participants acquire basic ICT knowledge, mitigating computer illiteracy, unemployment, and communication challenges in the business world. Moreover, engaging youth in this program prevents vulnerability to social vices like drug abuse and teenage pregnancy, reducing computer illiteracy among Ghanaian youth and fostering interest in ICT studies.

OUR IMPACT

GIBICTS boasts a remarkable success story. Since 2000 to date, we have trained 500 youth in ICT, with many advancing to earn BSc degrees in Information Technology and securing employment. The majority of our trainees work with reputable companies like Newmont Mining Ltd and other private and governmental institutions.
In collaboration with Newmont Gold Ltd and OLIVIES, we organized free computer classes for 100 Junior and Senior High school students in the Birim North District in 2010. We have also donated computers to schools and youth clubs, enabling them to establish computer laboratories and administrative offices. Notably, Newmont, the District Assembly, and other organizations in the Eastern Region have employed about 50% of our trainees.
